First Annual Sono Holiday Stroll  & Arts and Crafts Fair to benefit the Norwalk Open Door Emergency Shelter.

The Artists will be donating 10% of their proceeds to the Open Door Emergency Shelter

On Sunday, December 13, Begin your holiday with a leisurely shopping and dining stroll from Noon til 6pm throughout South Norwalk’s historic waterfront district. Over 70 boutiques, retailers, restaurants, museums, galleries, and studios are offering significant discounts for Stroll Shoppers only.

The day kicks off at the SoNo Holiday Stroll Headquarters at 127 Washington Street in South Norwalk With 20 Local Artists and Craftsman displaying and selling their unique products ~ great for Holiday Gifts!

Come join the Kids helping Kids Organization Christmas Carol their way throughout SoNo. The youth volunteers will also lead you to our Christmas Tree Decorating event from 1-4 PM located at the Norwalk Museum. Santa and his SoNo Photographer will be waiting for you with Christmas Cheer at the IMAX Theatre from 1-4 pm.

Hot Mulled Cider will be sold in front of the Stroll HQ @ 127 Washington to benefit the Open Door Shelter.

Norwalk Maritime Aquarium free to residents 12-5-09

Get your proof of Norwalk residency ready. The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is offering all city residents free admission on Saturday.On Salute Norwalk Day, Dec. 5, residents can enjoy the Aquarium animals and three special exhibits: Festival of Lighthouses, African Penguins and African Underwater Safari.

The Aquarium has also teamed up with the Physical Education Department of the Norwalk Public Schools to sponsor the annual Norwalk River Fun Run on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Veteran’s Park. Students will be walking and running 1.2 miles around the park and over the drawbridge to the Aquarium. All young runners will receive a coupon for a free child’s admission to a daytime IMAX movie (good when accompanied by a paying adult).

On “Salute Norwalk Day,” Norwalk residents also can receive $1 discounts on the daytime showings of the IMAX movies “Deep Sea” at 11 a.m. and 1 & 3 p.m., “Animalopolis” at noon and “The Light Before Christmas” at 2 p.m.

The day even extends into the Gift Shop and Cascade Café, where Norwalk residents receive 10 percent discounts.

Stepping Stones is excited to be partnering with Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, the Norwalk Historical Commission and Center for Contemporary Printmaking to present our annual Worldwide Day of Play – a day to help children and their families focus on the importance of a healthy active lifestyle. This year will have a historic focus featuring old time games, sports and other activities all guaranteed to get your family up and moving.

Activities scheduled

10 am - 4:30 pm: Ambulance Tours with Norwalk Hospital

10 am - 5 pm:  Victorian Lawn Games

10 am - 5 pm:  Croquet & Badminton

10 am - noon: Circus & Adventure Skills with Southern Connecticut State University

11 - 11:30 am: Yoga with Laurie Jordan from Greenwich Yoga and the soon to be opened, Westport Yoga  

11 am – noon:  Family Performance by Tom Callinan “The Gilded Age”

12:30 & 1:30 pm:  Gymnastics Demo with Westport/Weston Family Y Exhibition Gymnastic Team

12:30 – 5 pm:  Make your own Ball and Cup Game

1 – 4 pm:  Tricycle/Bicycle Art with the Center for Contemporary Printmaking

2 - 4 pm: Nutrition and Healthy Food Games with Pediatrician, Dr. Betsy Clachko from Norwalk Hospital

2– 4 pm:  Old Time Bicycles with the Wheelmen of CT

3 – 5 pm:  Karate with Kempo Academy of Martial Arts

Activities will take place in Mathews Park at Stepping Stones, Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum and Center for Contemporary Printmaking.

Sono Arts Festival August 1 & 2 2009

The 33rd annual SoNo Arts Celebration will enliven the streets of the historic, waterfront district of South Norwalk (SoNo), CT. The Arts Celebration is host to over 50,000 attendees, primarily from New England and the NY metro area.

Free-to-the-public, the Celebration supports original art, music and community spirit. Works from over 130 juried fine artists and craftspersons are showcased while live performers entertain throughout the weekend on three stages with a diverse mix of music, theater and dance. The Puppet Parade is a highlight of the event with giant puppets created by local participants.

Inspired by their passion for the arts and community spirit, a staff of volunteers produce the SoNo Arts Celebration and work throughout the year on various committees.
